The villagers have been protesting against lowest compensation rates in the district, despite it bordering Gurgaon.The farmers complain that while their land, which was acquired a year ago, fetched them a mere compensation of Rs 16 lakh per acre, the revised land rates award compensation of Rs 55 lakh per acre in the neighbouring Jakhopur village in the Gurgaon district.
Hazare and his associates were arrested under CrPC sections 107 and 151. Hazare, a 73-year-old Gandhian, was taken into custody from a residential area in Mayur Vihar before he was to proceed to the venue of his fast at J.P. Park, where prohibitory orders are in place.
Anna has been awarded Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri and if the government is doubting his integrity, then they should take back all the honours as the first criteria for such awards is integrity, said Bedi.
Thousands of activists staged a march in Pune, a large number of protestors started a gathering near Dadar in Mumbai. Bedi said that Delhi Police were one of the most experienced force in the country and had the maximum number of personnel to handle any kind of demonstration and protest.Soon after the police order imposing restrictions on Hazare’s fast, he Friday night shot off a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, terming the police move “undemocratic”.
