Bolton 2-3 Manchester City: Silva Steals The Show Again

Manchester City gave evidence of a shift in their attacking ambitions by beating Bolton in an entertaining game. Manchester City beat Bolton Wanderers 3-2 at the Reebok Stadium to go top of the table after two weeks of Premier League action. Both teams were coming off huge wins over newly-promoted teams, but it was City who got the most confidence from their comprehensive savaging of poor Swansea City.

David Silva gave City the lead from the edge of the box when Jussi Jaaskelainen got his positioning all wrong. Gareth Barry then smashed a shot into the top corner before Ivan Klasnic swept home Martin Petrov's cross.

Gliding around the pitch at Bolton, the diminutive Spaniard keeps this City side ticking over. Manchester United fans will recognise his brand of simple, effective football, as for years Paul Scholes pulled the strings at Old Trafford.

City’s 4-0 dismantling of Swansea City on Monday evening, made memorable by Sergio Aguero’s two-goal cameo on his debut for the club, had lifted Mancini’s team to joint top of the Premier League table alongside Bolton after the opening weekend’s fixtures.

City had to deal with stress before they took the points against an impassioned Bolton. Owen Coyle, the Bolton manager, was surely irritated by the build-up to this match. The City boss stated his intention to take more risks this season, and by naming two strikers from the start his side produced a performance that was as entertaining for the neutral as it would have been for the watching City fans.
