For newlywed royals Prince William and Catherine, there's no evading the limelight. So in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday night, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attempt to share it with a group of up-and-coming Britons in the film, television and video-game industries.
Prince William of Wales and his bride, Catherine, the newly minted Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, arrive in North America on Thursday, headed first to Canada and then to Southern California on an 11-day tour, their first overseas assignment since their glittering nuptials April 29.
As part of the couple's three-day trip to Southern California, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts has organized "Brits to Watch," a black-tie event at the Belasco Theater that will allow 42 young British actors, directors, producers and other professionals to rub elbows with Hollywood executives and celebrities — and thus raise their profiles stateside.
According to St. James Palace, Prince William and Kate’s objective while in the Golden State will be "supporting British interest in California through the prism of their own interests," on the trip which marks the first time Kate Middleton has visited the United States.
They took a look at multi-tasking and flash capabilities on the TouchPad, as well as other major features of the device, like watching their wedding photos stream across the screen from the Photos app, and a quick look at the Aston Villa website, Prince William's favorite soccer team, from the JustType bar to show the couple just how easy it was to get into the webOS experience. According to HP's Michelle Price, they did enjoy the demonstration.
Prince William replied: ‘Don’t be silly, send her all our love and tell her good luck with it all. It’s been an amazing few days – we’ve been so lucky with all the incredible places we’ve been able to see and we’ve met so many fascinating people. It’s been amazing, amazing.’ Beckham also spoke about the media frenzy surrounding the birth of his first daughter.
