Amy Jade Winehouse (14 September 1983 – 23 July 2011) was an English singer-songwriter known for her powerful contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres including R&B, soul and jazz.[3]Singer Amy Winehouse, who mixed pieces of soul, jazz, and gospel into pop ballads, was found dead in her apartment Saturday. Police are so far listing the cause of death as "unexplained." Her career as a musician was often overshadowed by her life off-stage, Winehouse struggled with drugs and alcohol throughout her life.


Winehouse's 2003 debut album, Frank, was critically successful in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Amy Winehouse is an English pop-soul singer whose hit songs include "You Know I'm No Good" and "Rehab." A hot demo tape got Winehouse a recording contract with Island Records when she was still a teen. Her debut album, Frank (2003), earned heaps of praise and plenty of awards in the U.K., but it was her second release, Back to Black (2006), that made her a star in both the U.K. Occasionally, she said yes, but to no avail: repeated stints in hospitals and clinics couldn't stop alcohol and drugs scuttling the career of a singer whose distinctive voice, rich mix of influences and heart-on-her sleeve sensibility seemed to promise great
