candidates are eligible to contest this month's presidential election in Singapore, the government said on Thursday, paving the way for polls that will be seen as an unofficial

referendum on the ruling People's Action Party.
The citizens of Singapore in accordance with the legislations indicated below elect the President. The President shall be the Head of State and hold office for a term of 6 years. If more than one candidate formally submits nomination papers, it will be the first time since 1993 that the presidential election will be contested.

The four are former Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan, former CEO of insurance firm NTUC Income Tan Kin Lian, marine transport firm Chuan Hup Holdings chairman Tan Cheng Bock, and former regional managing director of investment firm AIB Govett (Asia) Tan Jee Say.

since the start of the elected presidency in Singapore, the candidates will be jointly interviewed on television by three media and diplomatic veterans in a Channel NewsAsia Special, Singapore Presidential Election - Meet The Candidates.

In a statement, today, MediaCorp said the programme will be recorded and shown next Tuesday (Aug 23).

It gives a platform for the four candidates - Dr Tan Cheng Bock, Mr Tan Jee Say, Dr Tony Tan and Mr Tan Kin Lian - to articulate their views and take questions on issues relating to the Presidency.

From the current capital of English football, last season's FA Cup winners and Premier League champions renew their battle local for supremacy in this Wembley curtain raiser
One week before the kick off of the new Premier League season, the annual Community Shield takes centre stage. This year however, unlike recent seasons when it's been viewed (and treated for the most part by competing teams) as the last pre-season friendly and a final warm up, before the real season kicks off, there is a sense that it will be taken much more seriously.

Manchester City are looking to offload Carlos Tevez and replace him with Inter Striker Samuel Eto’o who has expressed his desire to play in the premier league. City are now in great chance of mounting a real title challenge with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea in the league and this match will decide how it all goes about. Sir Alex Ferguson has said in the press conference that he is unsure whether to go for Wesley Snieder or not, but many experts believe that United will sign him before the end of the transfer window.
Man Utd won the premier league last season, but they were un done by a superb Barcelona side in the UEFA CHampions League final, while in the FA Cup they were defeated by Manchester City in the SemiFinal and they will be eager to get one over their blue rival and get their season off to a brilliant start as this season the rivalry is not only on the pitch but also out as both clubs are busy buying some big name players.Michael Carrick and Javier Hernandez have been ruled out and Darren Fletcher is set to follow suit, although he’s back in training. Antonio Valencia is recovering well from his Copa America injury while Rafael is not quite over the knock he sustained against Barca. Sir Alex has a choice in goal with David De Gea and Anders Lindegaard battling it out for the jersey.
Tevez missed the club’s preseason tour of the USA after appearing in the Copa America, and a club spokesman confirmed that this was the reason for his extended absence.

Youth Day Singapore

Last night, over the dinner table, I informed everyone that I had taken the day off today.

Mom goes, “Why?”

“Because I’ve not taken any leave for a while, and I need a break.”

“It’s Youth Day, you know.” My mom knows this because she is a tuition teacher.

“Erm, no I didn’t know. I didn’t choose it because it’s Youth Day lah.”

The boys’ and girls’ 4x100m relay teams also recorded podium finishes. The girls’ quartet of Veronica Shanti Pereira, Jannah Wong, Eugenia Tan and Ruelia Nesaranjini finished over a second behind Thailand in second place, but their time of 47.70 seconds compares extremely favourably with the national junior record of 47.58 seconds.

Leading the Optimist Gold fleet is 12 year old Ryan Lo from Tao Nan School who has sailed a consistent regatta so far winning five out of eight races. Andrew Tang (Raffles Institution) trails him by four points in second position followed by Kimberly Ng (Tanjong Katong Girls’ School) in third.

The youth will join cooperative when cooperatives are professionalize in their working, he said. The training and education part of cooperative movement should be in tune with the change of time and should not confined to old ways of doing, said Shri Tiwari.

I asked the youth to submit questions that I could then answer next Saturday. I wanted them to stick to my specialty–Bible translation. Some did, but others asked more general questions. But by far, my favorite question is this: “How can young people like us be involved in the work of Bible translation?” I don’t think I’ll have any problem answering that question! But pray for wisdom as I think about how best to answer all the questions.

I wanted to start my own business - something that could positively influence young people, who are especially influenced by media,” Lin told CNS from San Rafael, California. “I was talking to my parents. And my dad, who actually grew up in Japan, asked me, ‘How come there’s no biblical manga?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, that’s right.
