Miss Teen USA 2011 Winner is Danielle Doty

The pageant, a yearly contest for girls between the ages of 14 and 19, each standing for an individuals home state, was originally started in 1983 as a sister pageant to the Miss USA system.

This years victor, which will be crowned by Miss Teen USA 2010 Kamie Crawford, will be given the opportunity to live in New York City as a student of The New York Film Academy. In addition to corresponding her title, Miss Teen USA 2011, will work with multiple charitable alliances, including Best Buddies, Sparrow Clubs, Girl Talk, D.A.R.E. and Project Sunshine.

The 18-year-old beat out Audra Mari of North Dakota to win the title and will take over from reigning Miss Teen USA Kamie Crawford of Maryland. The other finalists were Alexis Swanstrom (California, second runner-up), Taylor Clark (Kansas, third runner-up) and Sydnee Stottlemyre (Missouri, fourth runner-up).

Special awards went to Savannah Schechter from New Jersey as Miss Congeniality and Courtney Coleman from Hawaii as Miss Photogenic.

Miss Teen USA 2005 Allie LeForce and Chet Buchanan, a Las Vegas radio and TV host, served as hosts for the pageant.

Miss Teen USA pageants, held annually since 1983, are aimed at identifying national teen role models. The pageant includes gown and swimsuit competitions as well as interviews by the judges.
