Joe Mauer, known as the most eligible man in Minnesota, has gotten engaged to longtime friend, Maddie Bisanz. The couple got engaged over the weekend in Sanibel, Florida. A wedding date, however, has not been set yet. Mauer proposed to Bisanz while the couple was in Florida. The two have known each other since high school.
"I was hoping for a yes, and she said yes," Mauer told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "I'm getting to marry my best friend." Their beautiful love story began a while ago when Joe was at the Cretin-Derham Hall. His fiancé also graduate from this Catholic high-school, so the two have a lot in common.
They were not dating back in high school; they got together only a little more than a year back. According to reports, Joe Mauer popped the question to Bisanz while the couple was in Sanibel, Florida.
"A place that is special to both of us," Joe Mauer shared on Sunday from Florida. "We couldn't be happier, and we're both really excited." Mauer has always been private about his personal life and his dating past, although he was linked to former Miss USA Chelsea Cooley in 2006.
Mauer won the American League MVP in 2009. During the 2009 season Mauer had a batting average of .365, hit 28 home runs, and had 96 RBIs. Mauer’s numbers have fallen since then as he has struggled with injuries. In 2011, the Twins catcher hit .287 with three home runs and 30 RBIs.
