iPad camera FaceTime has already almost ready

According to some sources, Apple has already begun testing a new version of iPad, and note the novelty is equipped with an integrated camera FaceTime. As sources, iPad second generation will be officially presented in the first quarter of next year. They said that Apple does not intend to comply with the annual cycle updating mobile products because the iPad showed that demand for planšetniki (tablet) really high, and in this market segment until the Cupertino (Cupertino) out of competition.
By the way, these sources also report that the camera will attend FaceTime to virtually any mobile device. Apple is the most cost effective production of mobiles

Researchers from Canaccord Genuity issued a report on the activities of the Apple during the first half of this year.
As reported by Canaccord analyst Michael Uokli Genuity Ty (T. Michael Walkley), in the first half of the Apple managed to sell only 17 million mobile devices. For comparison, Nokia, Samsung and LG Electronics have put on the market of 400 million. devices. However, if we consider the ROI, then Apple has left all competitors behind. As it turned out, of 39% of revenue in the segment of mobile phones and total profit Nokia, Samsung and LG is less than 32 per cent.
Experts note that while most mobile manufacturers can hardly afford the gross profit margin at the level of 10%, that Apple is about 50% and operating profit of around 30%. Exceptions are company RIM and HTC, mobile business profitable is also thanks to the Android

Apple, Google and Microsoft in the fight for the digital living room

Analyst Mejhard Mind (Maynard Um) from company UBS Investment Research published yesterday regular analytical note to investors. He considered the race for the creation and promotion systems, encapsulating the name “digital living room”.
Mind describes the digital living room “as a system that offers the opportunity to gain access to content from anywhere on the planet.” In his view, such a system is the next step in the evolution of the entertainment industry and the “Holy Grail” for cloud systems “to any type of content with various devices, and at any time.
According to analyst, competition in this segment is in “early stage”. However, some key players such as Apple, Google and Microsoft. As dark horses are bred “are companies such as Amazon, Samsung and Sony. As far as HP, Nokia, Research in Motion as major players in this sector considered not worth it.
According to the report, the clear winner in this race is the Apple, which boasts a strong start in this direction, as well as a rich infrastructure for iTunes. The latter allows for quick and easy access to one of the world’s largest libraries of media (music and applications especially) to use it on a wide range of portable and stationary devices.
Company UBS demonstrated depiction of Apple devices ecosystem (see illustration), which shows a range of equipment can be combined into a single system of content consumption. These include the platform for Mac and iPhone, iPad, as well as service sale and rental of audio and video content on iTunes and the app store application store. Soon it is expected that the system of the digital living room “from Apple will fast-track services such as cloud services and social networks.

Apple TV delayed?

As you know, Apple has promised that the Apple TV will begin in late September. However, it is possible that the TV set to hit the market later than planned. According to MacNN, Apple Insider, Mac Rumors and a number of other sources, some buyers have received notice from Apple that ordered their goods can be delivered only by mid-October. In some cases, Apple even returns the shipping cost.
It is worth mentioning that earlier this week, many buyers Apple TV reported that their credit and debit cards are charged money for purchasing, and this means that Apple is starting to supply Apple TV. Overall, the situation remains unclear, since MacWorld argues that not everyone who bought this TV set-top box received the notice. In addition, sample, MacWorld, still has the status “shipping in September.
Thus, no one can give a precise answer to the question is whether Apple TV, and if so by how much. Let’s hope that the situation has been clarified by early next week.

Microsoft vs Apple & Facebook

Australian company Microsoft has submitted to the social network Facebook application “PC or Mac that allows users to take part in a competition in which every week will determine the Windows user. Moreover, the winner will receive a prize.
To participate in the contest, you must publish your picture and answer a few questions about yourself. By voting points contestants to determine which of them is similar to a Windows user. Downloads is one winner, who gets a laptop HP Pavilion dv6.
Microsoft is trying to overcome the ideal combination of stereotypes that have developed advertising Apple: the Windows user-”boring” entrepreneur and user access control (Mac) young and bright creative personality.

Apple continues to improve iPhone camera

Apple is known for the fact that continuously involved in the invention of new and improving existing technologies and devices. Recently in the network appeared two curious patent statement describing new technologies developed by Apple. One of them will make the Smartphone iPhone even more quality tool for photography and the second will allow player iPod nano more live up to its name.
The first statement marks, no less, a new era in portable digital photography. Invented by Apple camera offers advanced Flash and embedded smart features that make excellent quality images with a wide variety of settings.
Among the modern features of this camera is, for example, selecting scenes and selectivity. This will allow a better crop, adjust the width, angle and focus on specific details. The statement also has hints of what these technologies can be used in Mac computers. Another advantage of this camera is the fact that, being extremely rich in features, it consumes less energy.

New Apple patent statement reflected in this new audio Jack that uses pins pogo that allows essentially reducing its volume. Recently when portable players smaller in dimensions 3.5 mm jacks requires an artificial increase in the size of the device (such was the case with the latest generation of iPod nano). Now, thanks to the use of this miniature connector manufacturer will be able to continue to reduce the size of their devices.

iPhone vs Others: The Mobile OS Market

ew Statistics: Mobile Internet 2010; Data Usage Experiences "Dramatic Growth"

from the Pew Internet & American Life Project. The numbers show mobile usage (both voice and data) continues to boom in the U.S.
From On Overview:
Cell phone and wireless laptop internet use have each grown more prevalent over the last year.
+ Nearly half of all adults (47%) go online with a laptop using a Wi-Fi connection or mobile broadband card (up from the 39% who did so as of April 2009)
+ 40% of adults use the internet, email or instant messaging on a mobile phone (up from the 32% of Americans who did this in 2009).
+ This means that 59% of adults now access the internet wirelessly using a laptop or cell phone—that is, they answered “yes” to at least one of these wireless access pathways. That adds up to an increase from the 51% who used a laptop or cell phone wirelessly in April 2009.
Data Applications
The use of non-voice data applications on cell phones has grown dramatically over the last year. Compared with a similar point in 2009, cell phone owners are now more likely to use their mobile phones to:
+ Take pictures—76% now do this, up from 66% in April 2009
+ Send or receive text messages—72% vs. 65%
+ Access the internet—38% vs. 25%
+ Play games—34% vs. 27%
+ Send or receive email—34% vs. 25%
+ Record a video—34% vs. 19%
+ Play music—33% vs. 21%
+ Send or receive instant messages—30% vs. 20%
User Groups
African-Americans and English-speaking Latinos continue to be among the most active users of the mobile web. Cell phone ownership is higher among African-Americans and Latinos than among whites (87% vs. 80%) and minority cell phone owners take advantage of a much greater range of their phones’ features compared with white mobile phone users. In total, 64% of African-Americans access the internet from a laptop or mobile phone, a seven-point increase from the 57% who did so at a similar point in 2009.
Young adults (those ages 18-29) are also avid users of mobile data applications, but older adults are gaining fast. Compared with 2009, cell phone owners ages 30-49 are significantly more likely to use their mobile device to send text messages, access the internet, take pictures, record videos, use email or instant messaging, and play music.

From the Post:
Shireen Mitchell, the founder of Digital Sisters and a consultant on social media campaigns focused on women and minorities, said that the way in which people access the Internet should remain a part of the conversation about the digital divide.
“The quality of what is available through cell only is limited access,” she said. “We are moving in a positive direction about true cellphone usage and it’s relevant to online access, but there are still some challenges ahead.”
Ms. Mitchell said organizations or government agencies that are eager to move everything online should consider that some cellphones might not be able to take full advantage of the Web.
Does the digital divide mean online access vs. limited online access vs. no online access and does access also include digital literacy skills or do we need to build more concrete definitions? One can have excellent digital literacy skills but not have quality access to the Internet. Or, have superb access but not the digital literacy skills needed to search, find, access, and analyze? As some have suggested, do we really have two distinct digital divides that are growing across all boundaries?

New Study Shows the Mobile Web Will Rule by 2015 [STATS]

In a dense, 87-page report, Morgan Stanley analysts have charted the most important online trends and predicted the future of the Internet. In addition to forecasting more online shopping and showing the geographical distribution of Internet users, the study also shows a dramatic shift toward mobile web use.
Including devices such as the Kindle, the iPhone (iPhone) and other smartphones, web-enabled tablets, GPS systems, video games and wireless home appliances, the growth of the mobile web has been exponential — and we’re still just at the beginning of this cycle. Morgan Stanley’s analysts believe that, based on the current rate of change and adoption, the mobile web will be bigger than desktop Internet (Internet) use by 2015.

The mobile wealth creation/destruction cycle is in its earliest stages. The proliferation of better devices and the availability of better data coverage are two trends driving growth; having better services and smaller, cheaper devices has led to a huge explosion in mobile technology that far outpaces the growth of any other computing cycle.

And speaking of coverage, global 3G penetration is expected to hit 21% this year. In Japan, where the U.S. looks to find its mobile roadmap for the future, 96% of mobile subscribers already have 3G coverage. In Western Europe, the penetration is around 54%, just slightly above 46% in the U.S. In developing and/or economically depressed areas, including the Middle East, Africa, parts of Asia, Eastern Europe and South America, 3G penetration is still in the single digits. Morgan Stanley identifies 3G access as a key point in the success of the mobile web.
Finally, mobile e-commerce is ramping up faster than online e-commerce, now making up 4% of total retail sales. In certain categories, such as computers, consumer electronics, music, movies, tickets, video games and books, online sales account for between 45% and 20% of the total retail market. Japan’s Rakuten shows how the mobile share of e-commerce is growing as well, from 10% of e-commerce in 2006 to nearly 20% now.

Notes on the Social Web

Social network use has already eclipsed e-mail use. People started spending more time on sites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace () back in 2007; in 2009, there were more users on social networks than users of e-mail.
In the past three years, two sites have gained a huge amount of mindshare around the world. The number of minutes spent online from a global audience was dominated by Yahoo and MSN in 2006. Today, Facebook is the website that gets by far the most attention, minute for minute, with YouTube () holding a steady second position.

Other Stats of Interest

  • 48% of all Internet users come from just five countries (Brazil, Russia, China, India and the U.S.).
  • Video () accounts for 69% of mobile data traffic.
  • Facebook is the single largest repository for user-generated content such as pics, videos, links and comments.
  • Apple and Android () platforms are gaining in the mobile OS market, while Windows Mobile, RIM and Palm decline.
  • More and more, we are expecting to have access to our “stuff,” i.e. music, documents and applications, in the cloud.
  • The overlap between mobile users and social web users continues to grow; more and more users are accessing the social web from a mobile device.
  • If Skype were a telecommunications carrier, it would be the largest carrier in the world, with 521 million registered users.
  • Games are bigger than any other app category — both for the social web and for mobile devices.
  • Real-time technology and location-based services are expected to drive mobile retail.
  • Online ad sales are growing, but virtual goods, premium content and other models are big business, especially for the mobile web.
  • The average iPhone user only spends 45% of his on-device time making voice calls.

Overclocking Nokia 5230 ???

Nokia 5230 Nuron processor overclocked to 800MHz

Usually when discussions of overclocking enter the room, we’re talking about desktop computers being water-cooled and pumped up as high-end gaming rigs. That’s not the case today. Instead, we take a rather ho-hum Nokia and effectively double the clock speed on its processor.
An enthusiast has set out to overclock every Nokia Symbian device and the Nokia 5230, which is sold as the Nokia Nuron via T-Mobile, was the first testing ground. Straight out of the box, the smartphone runs at 433MHz. Running some custom ROMs, this was bumped up to 800MHz.
That’s no small feat, effectively bringing the performance of this phone (almost) into the Snapdragon and Hummingbird range. The rest of the components aren’t up to spec, but it’s crazy that he’s able to move the processor up that much.
Will the average person be at all interested in overclocking their cell phone? Probably not. It could make for a very unstable experience and you can pretty much say goodbye to your battery life. Even so, it’s quite the interesting exercise in what is possible. So, when will someone overclock a Snapdragon-powered smartphone to 2GHz?

First LTE smartphone from HTC scheduled for 2011 release

We have a couple of juicy tidbits for all the HTC smartphone enthusiasts in the audience. First, HTC has indeed confirmed that it has an LTE smartphone in the works, but it seems that this device will be slightly delayed in its launch. For now, the timetable is calling for a launch “some time in 2011.”
This would effectively miss the LTE rollout with Verizon Wireless, which is currently set to happen before the end of the year. At the same time, HTC has not confirmed who its initial LTE partner will be in the United States either. AT&T is planning to do the LTE thing about halfway through 2011; that timing would be closer to HTC’s timetable.
Considering how proud HTC was to launch the first 4G (WiMAX) phone in the United States with the HTC Evo 4G through Sprint, I’m thinking they’d want to be the first with LTE in our part of the world too. Interestingly, HTC is not saying whether the first LTE handset will be an Android or Windows Phone device.
Speaking of Windows Phone 7, HTC head honcho Peter Chou said that the company’s first WP7 device will not have the “complete Sense experience” that we enjoy on its Android phones. The “HTC experience” will come over time, partly because of Microsoft’s UI restrictions. Until I get a real taste of vanilla WP7, I’ll reserve judgement on what a Sense’d version of it should look like.

REVIEW: BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300

In this day and age, having a 3G connection on your smartphone shouldn’t really be a selling feature. It should be a given, like saying that your smartphone has the ability to update Twitter or organize your schedule. Even so, it seems that one of the primary selling points of the new BlackBerry Curve 9300 is exactly that, since it is also marketed as the BlackBerry Curve 3G.
Does this mean that you should completely disregard the BlackBerry Curve 9300? No, not necessarily. At under fifty bucks on contract, it’s one of the cheapest smartphones on the market today. Then again, are you better off spending a couple more bucks to get something monumentally better? Let’s find out.
Features and Specifications
As a Curve, the BlackBerry 9300 is a very clear step down from even older devices like the BlackBerry Bold 9700. The price reflects that, but be prepared to make some sacrifices.
For instance, it only has a 2.0-megapixel camera and that doesn’t even come with flash. There’s just 256MB of internal memory, but you can expand that with the included microSD memory card slot. The rest of the specs are better than some Curves from the past though.
You get both 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and GPS, as well as the aforementioned 3.6Mbps HSPA 3G connection. Other specs and highlights include the usual BlackBerry accoutrements like the QWERTY keyboard, optical trackpad, BIS/BES support, and TeleNav. The 2.4-inch display is just QVGA and, strangely enough, BlackBerry App World does not come pre-installed.

Keyboard and Trackpad
If you’re a fan of the QWERTY keyboards from the days of the 8300 series, you’ll feel right at home with the Curve 9300. It has the same “separated” key layout as its predecessors, which is quite unlike the “connected” keyboard on the Bold 9700.
This is largely a matter of personal preference, to be sure, but I don’t like the 8300/9300 style keyboard. It wasn’t comfortable trying to type with the pads of my thumbs, forcing me to use my fingernails or the absolute tips of my fingers instead. The keys are quite hard to the touch too, instead of using a slightly softer plastic which may have been more comfortable.
The trackpad is exactly the same as every other contemporary BlackBerry, so it really came as little surprise. It does its job and I definitely like it better than the old trackball. I did find that after some oil from my fingers got on the trackpad, as is bound to happen, it got a little less responsive.
Camera and Multimedia
One of the more disappointing aspects to the BlackBerry Curve 9300 is its camera. When other smartphones are pushing upwards of eight-megapixels with dual xenon flashes and 720p video recording, the Curve 3G comes in with a paltry two-megapixel shooter and no flash in sight.
The pictures it takes are mediocre at best and don’t even think about taking pictures under low-light conditions. Granted, this is largely a business-oriented device and corporate types may not be TwitPic’ing all that much, but a lackluster 2.0MP camera won’t cut it in today’s smartphone world.
The multimedia player is the same as every other BlackBerry, but it is nice to see the dedicated music controls on the top of the phone. There’s a back button, forward button, and a play/pause button, the last of which doubles as the usual mute button for ‘Berries. Playing music through the built-in speaker is actually not bad, since it can be pretty loud for a phone.
Calling and Web Surfing
The call quality, for both ends of the conversation, is pretty middle of the road on this phone. I don’t have any real complaints regarding call clarity or reception, but I wouldn’t say that it’s particularly great in any way either. It just works and, let’s face it, we all use our smartphones for so much more than just voice calls. They’ve become an afterthought.
Web surfing is what you’d expect on a BlackBerry with a trackpad and a QVGA display. It does the job most of the time, but it’s far from the best mobile browsing experience. You really need to zoom in to get legible text on non-mobile sites, which forces you to do a lot of both horizontal and vertical scrolling.
Conclusion
The BlackBerry Curve 9300 is definitely a lesser BlackBerry, but the price reflects that. The camera leaves much to be desired, the keyboard isn’t the most comfortable thing in the world, and web surfing can be an exercise in frustration.

At the same time, the core BlackBerry functionality is as great as it has ever been, the keyboard will be familiar to those who came from the 8300-series, and the overall build quality is quite good (particularly the textured materials used for the back) for a phone at this price point. I also like how, while the memory card slot isn’t accessible without removing the battery cover, you don’t have to remove the battery to get at it.
Considering that you can get a much better phone in the BlackBerry Bold 9700 (which runs BB OS 6 now) for just fifty bucks more on contract, I’d much rather opt for that over the Curve 3G. Or, if you want to spend more and wait a little longer, the new-gen Bold 9780 should be just around the corner.

Verizon iPhone coming January 2011, says analyst

Apple iPhone 4 expected to hit Verizon Wireless January 2011, says analyst
Just about as popular as the iPhone 4G rumors, inevitably leading to the release of the iPhone 4, the Verizon iPhone reports continue; this time it’s coming from Bloomberg. On the TV show “Street Smart”, Rodman & Renshaw senior technology analyst Ashok Kumar explains how the AT&T hold on Apple’s smartphone will be ending this year, giving way for Verizon Wireless to offer the iPhone in the U.S. this January 2011.
Verizon Wireless is the largest U.S. mobile phone carrier, and Apple is all about numbers now. As you saw with their 1.7 million iPhone 4 units sold in just three days. Giving up exclusivity and selling through Verizon will make millions of people quite happy. UBS AG analyst John Hodulik in an interview with Bloomberg expects Verizon customers to buy 3 million iPhones per quarter, according to his estimates. That can quickly reach new records considering Verizon had 92.8 million customers at the end of this quarter.

iPhone Coming to Verizon in January 2011?

A report from two anonymous sources suggests Verizon will begin carrying Apple's iPhone in January 2011.
With the ink now dry on a stack of AT&T contracts left in the wake of Apple’s iPhone 4, it looks like the carrier may have roped in all 1.7 million iPhone buyers just in time. According to Bloomberg, Verizon will begin selling the hot-selling superphone next year, ending AT&T’s longstanding monopoly on Apple devices.
Bloomberg cites “two people familiar with the matter,” whom claim Verizon will begin offering the iPhone in January 2011. Although no new details have emerged, the report seems to mesh with an earlier Wall Street Journal rumor that production on a CDMA iPhone would begin in September.
Rumors of the iPhone coming to networks have swirled almost since the very first generation launched exclusively on AT&T, but all have proven false so far. According to a USA Today article from 2007, Apple signed a five-year exclusivity deal with AT&T back in 2007, leaving it anchored to the carrier through 2012
