Reports are trickling into to our tipline that Ooma, a popular VOIP service, is currently experiencing major network issues. Currently, Ooma’s phone service seems offline nationwide, and their website and support forums are working sporadically if at all.
The heart of the Ooma system is the Telo base station ($249, www.ooma.com), which uses an Ethernet connection to plug into your broadband modem. To start, go to the Ooma website and set up an account, which includes choosing an area code and a phone number, registering your 911 address and adding your billing information.
Hello, 911? Hey! It’s me, any one ! I just set up my new Ooma Telo – only took fifteen minutes! – and it says that when I call 911, you guys’ll get my registered address. Just wanted to make sure it’s working. 509 4th Ave, Galesburg, Illinois – is that what you got on your end? Cool, well then, no emergency here, except having this whole bottle of wine all to myself, hint hint, more information about this news is this that,
Some users (mostly in California) are reporting that their service is returning, but right now, it would appear that a majority of subscribers are unable to make or receive phone calls. Another outage similar in scale to this one occurred in 2009, with service remaining offline for nearly 6 hours.

please don’t hang up! Why? Well, umm, because… I want to check the rest of these features. Yes, it is an emergency! Kind of! Or a preemptive strike on possible emergencies! Think about it: what if I set this up wrong and I call someone with anger problems and there’s an issue with the call that makes them want to kill me? Do you want that blood on your hands? Please, just walk through this with me!

firefox 6 most latest logo which you have never seen

Firefox 6 isn’t scheduled to be released until Tuesday, but Mozilla has uploaded installation files to a FTP server for those who want to get their hands on the upgraded browser early.
Note - if you download the 6.0 final release from the FTP server links below the welcome page will list the version as 6.0beta. Mozilla did not update the welcome page before releasing 6.0final into the wild.
Even though it’s scheduled to be released this Tuesday, Firefox 6 is available for download now. Thanks to the folks at Maximum PC who managed to dig up the links for the update, you can now enjoy it two days earlier than everybody else. Here’s what you’ll enjoy with the Firefox 6 update: more control over permissions, faster startup times, faster performance on Linux,
You can open the new permissions manager in Firefox by loading about:permissions. Just enter the about page in the location bar and hit the return key afterwards.
If you're looking for a major facelift to the desktop edition, you won't find one here -- most of the new features aren't cosmetic. Perhaps most visibly, you'll find the domain name of the page you're parked on highlighted in the address bar. On the Android side, version 6 makes much bigger promises, like a "fresh visual style in Chrome Gingerbread," enhanced image scaling, and, perhaps most importantly, it's "faster and uses less memory.
Check out what’s new, the known issues and frequently asked questions about the latest beta version of Firefox. As always, you’re encouraged to tell us what you think, or file a bug in Bugzilla.

motorola mobility deal gives Google

A consumer-driven world operates 24/7. Motorola Mobility’s Media Center is your one-stop shop for keeping track of our role in that world. Download press kits, check out our executive bios and latest news. You can also subscribe via RSS or e-mail. Welcome to the world of Motorola Mobility.
NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Google Inc. (GOOG) agreed to acquire Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. (MMI) for about $12.5 billion, a deal that spells the end of independence for a venerable American company and reshapes the booming market for smartphones as computing shifts from the desktop to mobile devices.

The deal gives Google--which has spurred widespread adoption of its Android mobile operating system by licensing it freely to mobile phone makers--its own in-house hardware operation, potentially enabling it to challenge rival Apple Inc.
Motorola Mobility's total commitment to Android has created a natural fit for our two companies. Together, we will create amazing user experiences that supercharge the entire Android ecosystem for the benefit of consumers, partners and developers. I look forward to welcoming Motorolans to our family of Googlers.
The acquisition of Motorola Mobility, a dedicated Android partner, will enable Google to supercharge the Android ecosystem and will enhance competition in mobile computing. Motorola Mobility will remain a licensee of Android and Android will remain open. Google will run Motorola Mobility as a separate business.
Two laggard mobile-phone companies, Research in Motion Ltd. (RIMM, $25.61, +$1.05, +4.28%) and Nokia Corp. (NOK, $6.02, +$0.66, +12.31%), may want to send a nice thank you card to Google. Google's deal raises hopes Research in Motion and Nokia might also be takeover targets now that there's a shrinking pool of independent companies that make smartphones. Still, a word of caution: an acquisition of Research in Motion by a foreign company -- Canada doesn't have a big enough player to acquire RIM --could face difficulty gaining Canadian government approval. Similarly, the likelihood of a Nokia deal seems slim given its $20 billion market value as of Friday's close.

iphon 5 going to look like

Apple's next iPhone -- which some believe will be called the iPhone 5, others the iPhone 4S -- is widely expected to be heading to stores in September. In a big change from the previous three events, Apple's 2011 Worldwide Developers Conference didn't reveal new iPhone hardware. Sure, attendees got details of iOS 5 at the June 6 keynote address, but true iPhone fans also left the session without any hint of what a new handset might offer or when it would arrive.

That being said, the newest rumors surrounding the next iPhone—dubbed “iPhone 5” by many in the media—indicate either a September or October launch. AllThingsD, speaking to unnamed sources “with knowledge of the situation,” is claiming October as the unveiling month.with the possibility of even late October being strong. As ever, if anyone knows anything, feel free to get in touch with us—otherwise, it looks like October will be a month of highs and lows. The phone's rear panel curves around its edges, similar to the iPhone 3G. (Oddly, MobileFun extends this observation: "This likely means that the back will be metal, and could serve as a replacement for the iPhone 4's unique side antennae ..." That seems a stretch since making a curved metal rear case the antenna means the user's entire palm would be touching the antenna, not just his fingers.A number of photos have emerged recently of a new-looking iPhone clone. It's 7 millimeters thick and sports a curved glass front and back. There's now even a video of the device in action. Everyone agrees that the device we're looking at is definitely a knock-off, but many also suspect that it's based on the real thing.

While we don't know much about the newest iPhone beyond the fact that it exists (prototypes have been shipped out to English carriers, according to The Guardian tech blog), we do have a whole mess of rumors that we can wade through.
YOU ASK, IS THIS iPHONE 5 GOING TO LOOK LIKE?

We already told you about the reports of the stronger rear-facing camera and the slimmer and thinner body; since then, even more anonymous tipsters and supposed spottings-in-the-wild have come forward.

When Twitter Met Facebook -- Awkwardly

You would think that a meeting between the founders of the world’s most popular social networks would be a fun affair, with conversation revolving around funding, investments and who has the bigger userbase. In reality, it appears it is a much more dour experience, at least if Twitter co-founder Biz Stone is to be believed.
In November 2008, Twitter co-founders Biz Stone and Evan Williams jumped into a car and ventured over to Facebook to meet Mark Zuckerberg, in a meeting which we recognise as the time when Facebook tried to buy Twitter.
Talking in an interview with NPR’s Peter Sagal, Stone reveals the awkward meeting with Zuckerberg, thanks largely to the Facebook founder’s apparent lack of humour.

When asked whether Twitter’s founders were members of “incredibly luxurious club “you and Zuckerberg and the guys from Google all get together and you sit in these, like, solid gold armchairs and you all just stare at your smartphones and never talk to each other,”  Stone admits it wasn’t far from the truth:

Stone: I had a meeting once with Zuckerberg, and every joke I said landed like a dead fish on the ground.

    Sagal: Really?

    Stone: So I said…

Sagal: He just stared at you like a Vulcan.

    Stone: Yeah.

The Twitter boss also recalls the uncomfortable moment when they initially entered the meeting room:

Stone: Evan and I walked into the room. He walked in first, sat in a chair. There was a loveseat left. It was a small room. I walked in next, sat on one side of the loveseat. Ev walked in third and Ev said, oh, do you want me to close the door or leave it open? And Zuckerberg said, “yes.”

"So Ev said, 'Oh, well I guess I'll just close it this much.'" This probably loses some humour in the telling but it was greeted with much laughter by the audience, who presumably were fans of door-related humour.

How well the gang get along might be moot, as according to Stone Twitter is not courting a suitor. When they met Zuckerberg asked the Twitter founders for a price and Stone said $500m as it was a "ridiculous" figure.

Things seemed to get worse after that as Stone apparently does not like queuing for food, something that is apparently part of the culture at Facebook.

"The worst moment was he was like 'Hey, do you guys want to go have lunch at our cafeteria?' So we had to wait on this huge line for lunch. Evan (Williams) was like, 'Aren't you the boss? Can't you like kind of cut the line a little bit here?,'" he added. "And he's like 'That's not how we do things here.'"

After this Stone "bailed", because, he said, "We don't like to be queued up."

facebook announcement

A few months ago, we started working with Skype to bring video calling to Facebook,” Facebook announced on its blog. “We built it right into chat, so all your conversations start from the same place. To call your friend, just click the video call button at the top of your chat window.”
Today Facebook will make an awesome announcement at 10 a.m. PST (1 p.m. EST). It's rumored to be a more in depth partnership with Skype, which will integrate.

The tech world and beyond gathered yesterday for another big Facebook platform announcement.
Our social network members support us throughout the year," said CMA Chief Executive Officer STEVE MOORE. "They are loyal to the CMA brand and our events. So, it is terrific when we can share exciting news with them first."

The CMA AWARDS will air on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 9th at 8p (ET) on ABC-TV, live from the BRIDSTONE ARENA in NASHVILLE.

The group chat feature will let users chat with multiple friends at once by selecting "Add Friends to Chat." According to Facebook, 50 percent of users are using the Groups feature, for things like co-ordinating events. Users can add friends that are not online at the time, and those friends will receive a summary of the chat later on.

The announcement comes just as Google launched its own social network called Google+, which emphasized privacy and had features like group chat and video calling built in.

Zuckerberg said Facebook's video chat will work through a partnership with Skype.

Facebook doesn’t let more than two participate in video chats. Skype has group chats, but it costs users $9 per month. Facebook does warn users that some computers may have hardware or software compatibility issues with the service.

Tom Anderson’s last post on MySpace was on March 1.

On his Facebook page, which seems wrong, he said, “I started MySpace in 2003, it sold in 2005 to NewsCorp for $580 million, and I stayed there to run it until April 2009. Now a new owner bought MySpace from News Corp. I'm not a fan of the new MySpace, though the team's heart was in the right place. Maybe the new owner has good ideas.

Facebook users and Skype's 663 million registers users, of which 42.2 million are average daily "active" users (2009 was last active users stat I could find). Imagine being able to see your friend's presence info and then chat, voice, or even video call them over 3G data or a WiFi connection. But the implications go deeper. Since everyone seems to be on Facebook, you wouldn't even need PSTN numbers any more.
