Hair Desises

Did you know that the average person has 5 million hairs? Hair grows all over your body except on your lips, palms and the soles of your feet. It takes about a month for healthy hair to grow half an inch. Most hairs grow for up to six years and then fall out. New hairs grow in their place.

Hair helps keep you warm. It also protects your eyes, ears and nose from small particles in the air. Common problem with the hair and scalp include hair loss, infections, and flaking.
Found exclusively in mammals, hair is one of the defining characteristics of the mammalian class.[1] Hair-like structures, called cilia, but which are not classified as hair, are visible in organs such as the nose and ear and these structures also occur in many other organs of mammals, other animals, and plants. Although non-mammals, especially insects, show filamentous outgrowths, these are not considered "hair" either, in the scientific sense. These so-called "hairs" (trichomes) also are found on plants. The projections on arthropods, such as insects and spiders, are classified as bristles, which are composed of a polysaccharide called chitin. There are varieties of cats, dogs, and mice bred to have little or no visible hair (fur). In some species, hair is absent at certain stages of life.

n the nearly 45 years since the original description of Menkes kinky hair disease (MKHD), advances in understanding the clinical, biochemical, and molecular aspects of this rare disorder of copper metabolism have outstripped progress in the design of effective therapies. The most promising therapy to date, very early subcutaneous copper injections, has normalized neurodevelopmental outcome in some individuals with Menkes kinky hair disease (approximately 30% in the author's experience) and mitigated the neurologic effects in others. However, some patients with Menkes kinky hair disease (nearly 50% in the author's experience) have not derived substantive benefit from this approach, despite very early institution of treatment.

Facebook accidentally resets email notifications, fixes glitch

This is icon for social networking website. Th...Image via Wikipedia

Facebook yesterday accidentally reset email notifications for some users. The social network lets users pick and choose what event on Facebook results in an email sent to their inbox (there are now 73 notification options to choose from). By default, most are turned on, and users often choose to turn some of them off. Unfortunately, the reset turned them all back on.

The glitch got a lot of attention and was posted on the Known Issues on Facebook webpage:

Email notifications: Some people are suddenly receiving email notifications for settings they had turned off, and the checkboxes are now checked. We are currently working on a solution to this problem.

The issue has since been fixed, according to Facebook. “Yesterday evening, we discovered a bug that caused a small number of people to start receiving notifications they had previously turned off,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement. “We have since resolved the issue and apologize for any inconvenience.”

Users  whose accounts got reset will likely encounter all 73 boxes checked and need to go through them to pare down the number of emails they’ll receive. However, some readers are complaining that as soon as they redo the email notifications, the site seems to ignore them or revert to sending all the messages that the user had just opted out of.

Losing Extra Weight Helps Memory

Weight loss may lower the overweight and obese people's greater risk for memory problems and other cognitive disabilities, a study shows.

The study of 150 overweight and obese people, including 109 bariatric surgery patients and 41 obese control subjects, showed that weight loss considerably improves brain health and memory.

The participants weighed an average of 300 pounds (136 kilograms) at the beginning of the research and many of them were suffering from several health conditions such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea.

The findings showed that the surgery patients, who had lost an average 50 pounds (22.7 kilograms), showed improvement in multiple cognitive abilities, including memory and executive functioning, which includes organization skills.

However, the morbidly obese patients, whose weight stayed the same, showed a mild decline in memory during the tests, researchers wrote in the journal Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases.

“The primary motivation for looking at surgery patients is that we know they lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time, so it was a good group to study,” said lead author John Gunstad from Kent State University, the US.

“This is the first evidence to show that by going through this surgery, individuals might improve their memory, concentration and problem solving,” he added.

"A lot of the factors that come with obesity things such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea  that might damage the brain are somewhat reversible," Gunstad said. "As those problems go away, memory function gets better."

However, the researchers believe that the improved memory for the surgery patients were not solely due to lower blood pressure, because many of those with hypertension did not show a normal blood pressure and complete relief of the condition after surgery.

It appears that there was another physiological process causing memory improvements, said Gunstad.

"We've known for a while that diet and exercise may also improve cognition, so it's possible there are several factors that are causing these changes."

It's important to emphasize not just losing weight but also adopting a healthy lifestyle, said Michael Devlin, the study's co-author from Columbia University.

The researchers are planning to examine whether people who experience behavioral weight loss experience the same effects as those who have had bariatric surgery, said Gunstad, adding that see similar results are expected.

"One of the things we know is that as individuals become more cardiovascular fit and their heart health gets better, their brain health also improves," he said.

"Even if we take young adults and put them through an exercise program, their memory and their concentration get better by the end of the program."

How to keep fit your self

Marine of the United States Marine Corps runs ...Image via Wikipedia
Besides, many people undereat to lose weight. Sure, you'll lose weight, however, you're not keeping fit, the weight lost is not from fat, they are from muscles, nerves, and other useful living tissues. In fact, less than 1% of your
weight lost from fat if you undereat.

If the amound of muscle is reduced, your body can't burnt as much calories as before. We cannot use all the calories we eat and it leads to an excess of calories which will be stored as fat.

All these actually make the problem wores, you'll never become fit only by eat less. So in addition to your diet, you should also pay attention to what exercise you should do.

1. Bicycling

It is a sad thing that many people do not take advantage of this excellent option for exercise. Bike riding exercise your body and build a stronger cardiovascular system. Also, it allows you to get out and enjoy nature and fresh air.

2. Jogging or Walking

Both jogging and walking are wonderful ways to get fit. They tone the muscles, relieve stress, create a healthier heart, and improve lung capability.

3. Swimming

Swimming is an exceptional way to get into and stay in shape. Swimming will help you tighten your body, lose weight, and get a good overall workout.

4. Tennis

Tennis is a great way to exercise. Just running after the ball alone will help get you into shape. This is a great way to strengthen your cardiovascular system and lose weight.

5. Dancing

Dancing is so much fun and as long as you are moving, it really does not matter what type of dance or music. The whole idea is to move your body. Dancing has long been recommended as an avenue to fitness.

6. VCR

If you have a VCR or DVD, try sticking in some good workout tapes. Even taking 15 minutes every day to workout will get you started. Try that for two weeks and you will be surprised at the results.

7. Abdominal Crunches

Crunches have long been a favorite for many athletes for the very reason that they work. Lying on your back with knees bent, keeping feet flat on the floor, cross your hands across your chest and then curl your torso, rolling from your sternum toward your hips. Do this slowly and start out with a set of ten crunches in three reps. As you get accustomed to these, you can increase both the number of sets and reps.

8. Squats

Squats are excellent for glutes, hamstrings, quads, and calves. With your feet standing firm and spread apart about two feet, bend your knees slightly. Then, very smoothly, you will squat toward the floor without going all the way down.

9. Tricep Press

For an Overhead Tricep Press, standing on the floor with your feet about two feet apart, knees slightly bent, you will extend your arms over your head. Keep your elbows locked and then very slowly lower your hands behind your head. You want to do this with some type of weight, but small weights like one to five pounds.
Your body's position on the bike affects how you ride. It affects how much power you can efficiently deliver to the pedals. It affects how comfortable you are on the bike. A position that is more comfortable may not allow you to put as much energy into moving the bike forward as a less comfortable position might. How do you decide where to position your body on the bike?
Don’ts:
• Don’t wear a longer suit jacket. It just makes your legs look shorter.
• Don’t wear fat ties and wide lapels; keep it slim.

Salman khan compered to Madhuri

Indian actor Salman KhanImage via Wikipedia
Salman Khan, star of 2010 Bollywood box office champ Dabangg has decided to go for the gold again.
Before Dabangg, Salman had a long dry spell (in Bollywood terms, anyway), but with that film he was able
to take his tough guy/bad boy image and turn it to his advantage with the role of corrupt police officer
Chulbul Pandey.  A south Indian style good guy with a bad attitude.  Chulbul fought the rowdies and
dispatched them in proper filmi style.

Salman Khan is full of praises for his co-star Asin. With their upcoming film “Ready” all set for release,
Salman has gone a step further and compared Asin to Madhuri Dixit.

The Dabangg actor said, “It’s a family entertainer, and there’s everything good about the movie, including an
ideal woman just like Madhuri in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun. In ‘Ready’ it’s Asin.”

On being compared to a diva, Asin stated “Madhuri remains unmatched. If I could be even five per cent of her,
I would’ve achieved much.”

The actress said further, “However, I have tried to bring to the role what was required of me. I have been
honest in my intentions, and I hope that works.”

In the mean time, it’s being said that the actress, who rose to fame from the movie Ghajini is very fond of
Salman.Ready is a remake of the Telugu film of the same name from 2008, but you can rest assured that the

Bollywood version will be bigger and more colorful.  The film was shot mostly on location in Sri Lanka and
Bangkok, with some excellent driving stunts and Muay Thai-ish stunts on view in the trailer.  The director,
Anees Mazmee is also responsible for Akshay Kumar's biggest film, Singh Is Kinng, a film which changed the
world by bringing Akshay Kumar and Snoop Dogg together for a duet that may never be surpassed.

Zaheer Khan ready to marry Isha Sharvani?

After the World Cup win, Zaheer's parents want
him to settle down with Isha and the obedient son has apparently relented.

If all goes well, the couple will tie the knot this year. A source close to the couple informed Mumbai Mirror
“Ever since they gave their relationship a second shot, they have come even closer than before. Wedding bells
are in the offing.”

It may be recalled that Zaheer and Isha felt a soft corner for each other in 2005 after meeting at various
events and parties. However, they parted ways after seeing each other for two years. Their love story didn't
end there though. They rekindled their relationship last year, and now, we hear that they are set to walk
down the aisle.

It seems the wedding day is not far off for the couple. “Ever since they gave their relationship a second shot,
they have come even closer than before. Wedding bells are in the offing,” Mumbai Mirror quoted a source close
to the actress as saying. Isha neither admitted nor denied the news by saying that she didn't want to comment
on it.

Isha's parents reside at Vellayani Lake near Trivandrum . They founded an arts school called Academy for Art

demanding role which requires her to show her dancing skills in any other movie.

Cancer

Researchers report that nearly one in five recently diagnosed lung cancer patients continues to light up, which can make them feel guilty or socially stigmatized.

"The biggest obstacle is fatalism, the belief that it is too late to quit smoking so why bother," said Kathryn E. Weaver, study lead author and assistant professor of social sciences and health policy at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.

"There are benefits to be gained by quitting that have important implications for survival, response to treatments, and quality of life," she said.

The findings point to the need for family support, counseling and medication to help patients and/or family caregivers overcome their addiction and adopt healthy lifestyle choicesInstitute.

Surgery to remove a tumor may be required in some cases, while radiation therapy and chemotherapy may be required to kill cancer cells. A combination of treatments may also be used to treat patients with cancer. Doctors may also use other treatment options in treating patients. Diet and lifestyle changes may support a cancer-free recovery.
Cancer may be named by the location of the origin of the cancer cells, or by the location of the primary tumor. The cause of cancer is not fully understood, but risk factors may exist for certain types of cancer. Researchers also found that those who shopped daily were 27 percent less likely to die over the study period, compared with those who said they shopped once a week. Male daily shoppers were 28 percent less likely to die, and female daily shoppers were 23 percent less likely to die.

Pass it on: Elderly people who shop every day have a lower risk of dying over a 10-year period than those who don't shop as often.

Environment May Refer To

A native of Michigan, he lived in the West for more than two decades before coming to the C-J in 2000. He studied journalism, forestry and environmental studies at the University of Montana.

In this blog, Bruggers shares news items and observations from inside the environment beat locally, regionally and globally. He calls your attention to new studies, reports and events. And he goes behind the headlines to answer questions and explain some of his own coverage in the newspaper. It is also confirmed that the desert won't be the only locale you explore; Drake will hit a number of locations around the world, including London and a jungle temple. There are also some strong hints that the game's driving sequences will be built around riding a motorcycle, though there's no confirmation of that.
The story revolves around Iram of the Pillars, also known as the City of a Thousand Pillars, a legendary lost trading center in the Rub' al Khali desert in the southern part of the Arabian Peninsula. Lawrence of Arabia had a particular interest in Iram, and so too does Drake. Recently introduced villain Katherine Marlowe is also interested in it, and we now learn that she is part of a secret society that has its roots in the days of Queen Elizabeth I.

Naughty Dog reveals that the team is still tweaking the game's story, but one thing that can be confirmed: this isn't the last adventure for Nathan Drake. "Uncharted" was never planned as a trilogy. Thank goodness for that.Longtime clean air advocate Frank O’Donnell sent a notice out last night briefly discussing how the air provisions were handled. He said there were reports that both sides had agreed to a "study," then raised questions about how such a study would be conducted:

Facebook entrance to China

Entering China would give Facebook access to the world’s largest Internet market, with more than 457 million
Web users. People who want to get on the social network there now rely on private-network services to circumvent
firewalls that bar access to information the government deems inappropriate.

Facebook, with more than 500 million users, aims to expand in other parts of the world to add members and
advertisers. Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg visited China in December and met with Internet
companies including Baidu Inc. and Sina Corp. He also met with Wang Jianzhou, chairman of China Mobile
Ltd., who said the pair discussed “the possibility of cooperation” in China.

“We are currently studying and learning about China, as part of evaluating any possible approaches that
could benefit our users, developers and advertisers,” Palo Alto, California- based Facebook said in an
e-mailed statement.

owner of the world’s most popular social-networking service,Mark Zuckerberg, has held talks with potential partners
about how to gain a foothold in China, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The officials of Facebook said in February that it’s opening an office in Hong Kong. While the aim is to focus
on Taiwan

and Hong Kong, the location brings Facebook closer to advertisers in China, where Susquehanna International
Group LLP predicts the online advertising market will triple to almost $13 billion by 2014.

The Rock and Go

7. The Rise of the Anti-Shoe

Another interesting trend in the past decade are anti-shoes, or shoes with Masai Barefoot Technology (BMT). These types of shoes are designed to mimic walking in the sand. The sole is curved and has multiple layers, making it feel like you're walking on an uneven surface. The idea is to activate more muscles as you walk, improve your posture and provide some shock absorption for joints. Some even promise to strengthen and tone the muscles in the glutes, hips and thighs, although whether this is actually true remains to be seen.
Other 'fitness shoes' like the Reebok EasyTones and Fit Flops cropped up in the last decade as well, promising us more ways to work while we walk.keep it save for your old age time

colourful opening ceremony of IPL4

Opening ceremony, showcasing a huge dash of Bollywoood-style entertainment, on Friday marked the launch
of the fourth edition of the IPL, the Twenty20 extravaganza which has gained immense popularity since its
inception.
world's leading cricketers, including star Indian players who led the country to a historic
World Cup triumph last week, will feature in the fourth edition of the event, being held for the first
time without its brainchild Lalit Modi.

The controversial Modi was sacked as IPL Chairman immediately after the third edition and is facing charges
of irregularities in conducting the IPL.

The highlight of the show was a dance performance by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is also co-owner
of the Kolkata Knight Riders. He enthralled the huge gathering by dancing on some famous numbers from his flicks
such as 'Chak-de India' and 'Billu'.

The one-hour ceremony started with all the 10 captains signing the MCC spirit of cricket banner.

Hit Bollywood singers Kunal Ganjawala and Sunidhi Chauhan took spotlight with some of their chart busters
and the ceremony finally concluded with Shah Rukh Khan's performance.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Shashank Manohar hoped the Twenty20 tournament
would provide the breakthrough for many domestic players eager to make a mark in the international arena.

The IPL has been the platform for many domestic players to showcase their talent and pitch for an India cap.

Manohar said he was confident of the event churning up fresh international talent. "Over the past three seasons
IPL has brought up the best cricketing talents from across the world. It is an opportunity for domestic players
to work towards the national cap. The last season saw breakthrough performances from youngsters and we are
hoping for fresh talent emerging from this edition," said Manohar at the opening cermony of the
IPL-4 ahead of the match between reigning champions Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders here.

World Health Day – 7 April 2011

On World Health Day 2011, WHO will introduce a six-point policy package to combat the

spread of antimicrobial resistance.

Antimicrobial resistance is not a new problem but one that is becoming more dangerous;

urgent and consolidated efforts are needed to avoid regressing to the pre-antibiotic

era.

World Health Day 2010 focused on urbanization and health. With the campaign

"1000 cities - 1000 lives", events were organized worldwide calling on cities

to open up streets for health activities. Stories of urban health champions were

gathered to illustrate what people are doing to improve health in their cities.

‘Antimicrobial agents are considered "miracle drugs" that are our leading weapons in

the treatment of infectious diseases. Antimicrobial resistance is the ability of

certain microorganisms to withstand attack by antimicrobials, and the uncontrolled

rise in resistant pathogens threatens lives and wastes limited healthcare resources.'

Latest research of cancer

splay uncontrolled growth, invasion that intrudes upon and destroys adjacent tissues, and sometimes metastasis, or spreading to other locations in the body via lymph or blood. These three malignant properties of cancers differentiate them from benign tumors, which do not invade or metastasize.

A new centre has been launched that will cement Oxford’s place at the forefront of cancer research.

The Oxford Cancer Research Centre is a partnership between Cancer Research UK, the University of Oxford and the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust. It will be funded by Cancer Research UK to the tune of £2.8 million in the first year.

The Cancer Vaccine Collaborative is an innovative clinical research program designed and directed by the Cancer Research Institute and the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research. The collaborative involves an unprecedented network of clinical investigators from medical centers in the U.S., Europe, Australia, and Asia, all working together to conduct a series of early-stage clinical trials on cancer vaccines. The goal of these trials is to teach us how to effectively immunize against cancer.

Poonam Pandey "going nude in private with consenting adults for atherapeutic purpose"

MUMBAI: Model Poonam Pandey, who has threatened to do a full Monty for the Indian cricket team if the men in blue win, switched off her cellphone on Saturday when India won the World Cup. Sources say the 20-year-old model was being inundated with calls from people either begging her to strip for them or threatening her with dire consequences should she dare go against Indian culture.

A defiant Pandey, however, had told TOI on Thursday that if BCCI gives her the permission to strip, she would go ahead with her plans. "Threats don't bother me," she had said. But the model may be facing arrest after R K Pandey filed a case against her in a Bhopal court. The BJP women's wing has also written to the Mumbai police commissioner Arup Patnaik to take action against her.

On Friday, Pandey issued a letter to the BCCI about her plans: "I write to you as a great fan of cricket and above all a patriotic Indian. I want India to win the Cricket World Cup 2011, and I am willing to go the extra mileage"

She added that "going nude in private with consenting adults for a therapeutic purpose" is not an offence, and said that a contract for the same could be drawn up as the BCCI is not a government body. She suggested that the BCCI choose another country such as Paris for her striptease to avoid controversy.

Pandey goes on to add: "I am serious about it as many studies conducted by various universities abroad confirm such performances boost and inspire people to perform better in any field, be it sports or otherwise.''

Sonakshi possessive about Sallu

Salman Khan ???
well,Sonakshi Sinha is becoming more and more possessive about her mentor and debut film co-star, Salman Khan.

Bollywood Actress Sonakshi Angers Pakistani Fans

Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha annoyed some of her fans from Pakistan when she tweeted a morphed picture of Shahid Afridi getting whacked by an Indian batsman just before the India-Pakistan semi final match on Wednesday.

The actress added a caption as well: 'De ghumaaaaake! Hehehehahahaha.'

But the Dabangg girl did not imagine that her little joke would irritate fans.

Her fans started tweeting back, telling her to be a goodwill ambassador between the two countries and learn a few things from Salman Khan. Some of them even unfollowed her on twitter.

Sonakshi soon realised the intensity of her tweet and calmed her fans down by asking them to be a sport, and that she was just joking. She then deleted the picture from her twitter account.

'Pak fans very upset. jung ke maidan mein ladne se toh accha hi hai khel ke maidan mein ladein! I am all for love thy neighbour. Be a sport yaar,' she tweeted.
