On July 22, 2011, Nick Kamp, a wastewater operator, reported spotting a capybara at the Paso Robles Wastewater Treatment Plant in California. As it turns out, sightings of the rodent have focussed on two nearby locales to the wastewater treatment plant.
Capybaras have heavy, barrel-shaped bodies and short heads with reddish-brown fur on the upper part of their body that turns yellowish-brown underneath. Adult capybaras may grow to 130 centimetres (4.3 ft) in length, and weigh up to 65 kg (140 lb). The top recorded weight is 105.4 kg (232 lbs).[14] Capybaras have slightly webbed feet, no tail and 20 teeth.[15] Their back legs are slightly longer than their front legs and their muzzles are blunt with eyes, nostrils, and ears on top of their head.
Two of the largest rodents in the world are roaming part of the Denver Zoo as "welcome guests."
Rodrigo and Gabriella, brother and sister capybaras, are living in the Tropical Discovery exhibit, zoo officials said Thursday.
The rodents look a bit like guinea pigs. They were born Feb. 17 and came to Denver from the Buffalo Zoo in New York.
A wild and rare capybara has been spotted out and about at a Paso Robles wastewater treatment plant, “consuming vegetation in the sewer ponds.”
It’s believed that the sighting is of the same capybara spotted in the area a couple of times over the past few years, and the massive rodent is apparently good at eluding capture and public appearances. A witness who first saw the creature described it as the size of a “small pig,” and wildlife experts say the creatures weigh between 100 and 120 lbs. in adulthood.
It’s actually about three cats who try to capture a capybara that has gotten loose in their neighborhood. The lead cat’s name is Celeste so I didn’t even get top billing. And the capybara is actually name Caplynn and is a girl, so I’m not all that happy about that. But it is a book about capybaras and it is loosely based on me, there aren’t many capybaras who can even say that much.
